7 Years

The other day, I met up with two friends from my primary school, who I hadn’t seen for 7 years. It was a lovely afternoon spent eating pizza and reminiscing about the days when life was smaller and simpler.

I discovered how much I missed the days where a small thing (like kissing or singing ‘Superman shot through the air / in his sexy underwear’) was scandalous. The most complicated that life got was when grudges were held for stolen pens.

Then, of course, the conversation moved onto people who went to our old school. Since I moved out of town, whilst my two friends remained, I dimly remembered some of the people they referenced. They were comparing these people now to the prep school version we knew 7 years ago – and what a shock I got!

Everyone had changed:

  • picked up a new hobby and got good at it;
  • adopted new habits both good and bad;
  • had far more relationships than I ever expected;
  • matured (or not, in some cases…)

Yet still the same.

Have you met up with old friends who you haven’t seen for a long time? What had changed? What hadn’t? Let me know!

  1. Whenever I meet up with old friends, it can go either way. It is just like the old times where we would joke around and we would even talk about life in general. But, then it can also go the other way, where I realise that things have changed. Not that it’s a bad thing, it’s just I guess we all grow up.

    • Yeah that’s so true, with friends that I see more often, we always get on just like old times but since I hadn’t seen these friends for so long the stuff that has changed becomes more striking! Thanks for reading 🙂
